iN pEOPLE mAGAZINE AGAIN! YAY!

When Sherri Saum contacted us after her DELICIOUS twins John and Michael was born to offer us the opportunity to help design their nursery, we JUMPED at the chance!  Not only do we love Sherri and her husband Kamar, but we love a challenge and doing things for the very first time!  We started off pouring over hundreds of fabrics to use as curtains, in lieu of a "feature wall" -- to be the focal point of the room.
Picture
Then we gave their oak wood cribs a makeover by enrolling Ziggy the Hipster's services to paint and distress them in a beautiful vintage blue.

Sherri and Kamar said reading is super important to them, so a bookshelf was a must!  But there wasn't much room for a bookshelf, so we mounted Shapes that complemented the Ikat Style Curtains in the color theme instead!

Instead of Chrismukkah, this year we had "Thanksgivukkah" -- that's how the Jewish Calendar landed this year.  We LOVE blending ideas together, so had fun constructing a Pumpkin Menorah, and of course, blending the Orange Color Of Thanksgiving with the Blues & Silvers of Hanukkah!  Take a look for yourselves!

One client requested an elegant color scheme of Brown & Cream for her sons baby welcoming party.

We were faced with the challenge of adding a baby element without being kitschy.... being it a time when flowers are not so plentiful, we decided what better way to incorporate brown into our cream flowers, without making it girly or tacky!!!!

You can totally do this @ home!

**cute tip: use 2 different color socks for 2color roses!!!

The Candy Bar

Candy Bars are one of the most fun Items to design for any event.  We like to make sure the Candy Bar is designed in theme with the event, or to the person/people whom the event is all about!

When we did the FOX network "Back to the 80's party, every candy was a representation of that funky, colorful decade.  We then labeled each Candy a Cute name, and typed it up shaped like a cassette tape.  See some images below:
This past week's BatMitzvah was all about "Jule" Toned candy, for Julia's Candy Shop!  See pics below:

Bathroom Vanity Baskets @ a Wedding

You know what we're talking about... that's the basket full of "grooming" goodies in the Ladies room at a wedding.  Often overlooked, we are totally pro this little basket, and here's why!

Planning a wedding is a very strenuous and time consuming task, but let's face it -- most of that energy is really being channeled towards what YOU, the bride wants.... Nobody chooses their floral bouquet based on what other people may like (well at least they shouldn't :).... You're tasting the food and choosing what tickles your pallet the best way, you're outfitting yourself in the most flattering and beautiful dress for you... etc. etc.

And all this time your guests will be scanning registries in search of the most befitting gift for you, taking time to send off your RSVP, shopping (in their closet or in the mall) for an outfit for your wedding, showing up on time so they can see YOU walk down the aisle, and eventually dancing the night away for you.

SO why not show your guests that throughout all the time being devoted to you and your day, you have actually considered and thought about your guests.  It's a little symbol to show you want to take care of people who have spent time and energy on/for you.  It's a cute little surprise they can see when they enter into the Ladies room and c'mon who is NOT going to appreciate a free lip-gloss/hairpins/mint?

Here's a list of things you may or may not want to put in the little vanity basket!
ps: we're a fan of getting our goodies from the 99c store!

Hair elastics, hairpins, hairspray, hair-gel, hairbrush, hair-combs, personal lip glosses, chapstick, one use toothbrushes, dental floss, mints, personal mouthwashes, personal facial cleansers, makeup remover, personal nailpolish removers, tissues, tampons, panty liners, mini first aid kit, extra band-aids, sewing kits, extra safety-pins, q-tips, tide-to-go, advil, tums, perfume, spray deodorant, gum, candies, moisturizer,  condoms ? :).......

pps.  men can get a basket too!  obv they don't need sanitary supplies or makeup items but u get the picture!

First Ever DIY Post!

At a recent home based Carnival Themed Birthday Party in Los Angeles, the client wanted a Lollipop Plant as centerpieces!  The party had a grand circus tent, old fashioned food carts, swimming games, lounge areas (for adults) and a big giant moonbounce, but the client specifically wanted to maintain a "low-key" "family affair" style.

We came up with this cute idea below, something that can be created on a budget, and fits the "diy" profile we will be blogging about!  Remember you can always get ahead with our DIY posts on Instagram @leahsilkevents !

Say Yes with less Stress!

I feel there are two people inside of me-me and my intuition. If I go against her, she'll screw me every time, and if I follow her, we get along quite nicely.

How many episodes of "Say Yes To The Dress" does one need to watch before they realize that there is hardly a greater force than one's intuition.

                                                    When you know, you know.

But this doesn't just apply to white/ivory/pink? dresses.... this applies to a lot of things in life.

And it's no different when planning your event.

What ever your event, you want your clients, friends, family, and guests to appreciate and enjoy their time.  Therefore, when choosing a venue, a menu, (nothing else really rhymes, oh well!), an entertainer, a color scheme.... you truly need to focus so you can really be in that moment @ your event...to help make choices.

Just like those brides try before they buy, it's the best idea to physically go to each venue, get invitation paper samples, have a taste testing, get linen swatches, purchase individual marketing swag items, get testimonials regarding entertainers, etc. so you can have that Aha! moment properly!  Your instincts need some help from your senses sometimes!

Can intuition be learnt?... I don't know and I'm definitely not a philosopher.   Here's what I do know, it can definitely be developed.  An Event Planner is here to help you along with this process that's forsure!   It is our job to be intune with your intuition! And Event Planners have the knowledge, experience, & practicality to bring you good & appropriate choices.

Ultimately if you want to have the final say between 2 or more "perfect" choices, your intuition will have to come into play, so make sure its ready when your planning your next event!

Looks like just a regular First Aid Kit, right?  Actually, it's a business card - small, sleek, & personalized!  Cool, huh?

With the annual Consumer Electronic Show taking place in Las Vegas this week, we are giving a shout out to some alternatives to the typical business card!

At any Tradeshow, there will be thousands of business cards exchanged.  You never want your card to be disposed of!  What if your card was a small, transportable first aid kit?  Or a package of mints? Or maybe even engraved on a chocolate bar?  Personalized M&Ms in a little container?  There are so many ways to stand out and get noticed!

There are some great websites out there for ordering these cute "cards" in bulk!  (4imprint.com, norwood.com)

Here are some other ones we like!
